Wenzhou is a prefecture-level city (or provincial subregion) in southeastern Zhejiang province, People's Republic of China. It has a population of 7,777,000 in 2006, with 1,336,000 residents in the 3 districts of the city with the same name.

Wenzhou natives speak Wu dialect Chinese, like the people of Hangzhou and Shanghai. Geographic isolation and an admixture of Southern Min Chinese speakers from nearby Fujian Province, however, have caused Wenzhou speech to evolve into a dialect that has been described as "notoriously eccentric." As a result, people from Shanghai and Fujian both have trouble understanding what is known as “Wenzhouhua.”

Wenzhou was a prosperous foreign treaty port, which remains well-preserved today. It is also known for its emigrants who leave their native land for Europe and the United States, with a reputation for being enterprising folk who start restaurants, retail and wholesale businesses in their adopted countries.

This combination of urbanity and scenic beauty provide a unique opportunity to those coming from abroad to work in Wenzhou. Living in the heart of one of China’s major economic hubs, our teachers are able to enjoy the nearly all the amenities offered by any Western metropolis while at the same time being within easy reach of numerous scenic locations. Furthermore, Wenzhou’s location makes it an ideal starting point for trips to Shanghai, Hangzhou, Ningbo, Shaoxing, or Xiamen.

School

Wenzhou Aston was established in June of 2007. We are located on the third floor of the 200,000 square meter D&L Mall, one of Wenzhou’s premier shopping centers. As such, Wenzhou Aston is able to provide an upscale working environment that rivals those that exist in the West.

Within a few minutes walk of the school are several Western style restaurants, a 2000 square meter supermarket that specializes in top quality imports, as well as numerous international shops and boutiques. The school itself consists of four spacious classrooms and a teachers’ lounge with high speed internet access, and an extensive collection of teaching resources to assist our teachers in planning and teaching lessons. Additionally, our TV lounge boasts a 40 inch flat screen television that can be connected to a computer, making a truly multimedia classroom a reality. Finally, our school’s central air system allows teachers work in climate controlled comfort year-round.

We are a new school in the Aston system as well as a newcomer to Wenzhou. All of this makes it an exciting time to work for Wenzhou Aston. In order to establish ourselves in Wenzhou, we are assembling an exceptional staff, of which we hope you will choose to become a part. Their hard work and ambition have allowed us to develop at an impressive rate in a highly competitive local market.

Aston Wenzhou’s foreign teacher housing is located a pleasant ten minute walk from our school. Located along Jiangbin Road, both the Ou River and the downtown are easily accessible from your apartment. Within a few minutes walk is a local pub, as well as a cinema. there are supermarket, bank, gym, shopping mall near here to facilitate a happy life!
