Chang’an Aston is the fifth Aston school in Xi’an. It was founded on September 3rd, 2011 and is located in Chang’an District which is a southern suburb of Xi’an. Xi'an is the capital city of Sha'anxi province with a history dating back more than 1000 years and has been through 12 of China's great dynasties.
Chang'an is far enough out of the city center to give you a feel for authentic China, but close enough for you to be able to catch a subway train, bus or taxi to get in to Starbucks, Macdonalds or KFC when you need the familiarity of home.
About Xi'an & Chang'an:
Xi'an is the capital of Sha'anxi province and is one of the oldest cities in China with more than 3100 years of history. Previously Xi'an was known as Chang'an before the Ming Dynasty and is part of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China. Chang'an (Xi'an) held the position as Capital of China under several of the most important dynasties including, Zhou, Qin, Han, Sui and the Tang dynasty. Around Xi'an there are many references to the Tang dynasty, like the Tang paradise shopping district which has been beautifully made up with statues representing the dynasty. Xi'an is where the silk road terminates in the east and home to the wonder of the Terra Cotta warriors.
Chang'an is now a suburb of Xi'an just outside the G30 outer ring road, it is not the original Chang'an however. If you wanted to get to the original area you would need to catch a bus or a subway to to the city walls. The Chang'an district now, is known as the academic center of Xi’an. It is surrounded by universities, educational agencies, schools and kindergartens. It is in close vicinity of the Big Goose Pagoda called Da Yan Ta 大雁塔 in Chinese, the newly developed Tang Paradise and the Xi'an Television Tower which is an area landmark with large convention centers and a Metro super store where you can find many foreign products as well as quality red wine for more than reasonable prices. It's a quiet area which is a welcome break from the hustle and bustle space of Xi'an center.
Getting Around Chang'an & Xi'an
Xi'an opened their Underground Subway network on 16 September 2011 with a North to South line. It starts at the Xi'an North High-speed Railway station and ends at the International Exhibition Center in the south. The main stops on the line are North Street, Bell Tower, Xiaozhai, International Exhibition Hall and Changan distirct. the are 21 stops in total. The Subway will later be expanding to many more lines which are currently under construction. you could expect to travel at least 20 minutes by subway or a little longer by bus.
Taxis are readily available, but you may get stuck between 16:30 and 18:30 as this is when taxi drivers come off shift. But with the subway available you have something to fall back on should you need to get north or south in a hurry
Chang'an and Xi'an are very central for traveling across China with Xi'anyang airport connecting flights to almost every major city in China. Xi'an being as central as it is means you will find a reasonably priced ticket when looking for flights at the right time.
