Datong

Datong (大同), the second largest city of Shanxi Province, is situated in the far north of the province, bordering Inner Mongolia.

Datong serves as the capital city of two dynasties, Northern Wei (386-534), and Liao Dynasty. Top attractions include some marvelous ancient sites, remnants of the city's glory days as the capital city of two dynasties. Today Datong is a modern industrial city known for its coalmines, power stations and a huge locomotive factory.

Though most visitors today are attracted by the marvelous ancient Buddhist sites, Datong is also the closest city to Mount Hengshan, one of the four holy mountains of Taoism in China. The spectacular Hanging Temple in Hengshan is a must-see to any tourists visiting Hengshan.

Yuncheng- Aston

Location: Yuncheng City is located in southwestern Shanxi Province, neighboring Linfen and Jincheng within the province. It is separated from Shaanxi Province and Henan Province by the Yellow River.

Physical Features: The southeastern and northwestern areas of Yuncheng are lined with the Zhongtiao Mountain and Emeiling Mountain. Between the two mountains lies the Yuncheng Basin with an average altitude of 350-500 meters (1148-1640 feet). The Yellow River flows along the western and southern edges of the city.

Taiyuan Aston

Welcome to the Taiyuan Aston website. Taiyuan is situated some 400Km south east of Beijing and is in Shanxi Province. It is situated on the Loess Plateau to the north end. It is a very old city and has a 2500 year old history. Marco Polo during his exploration of the country referred to Taiyuan as a “prosperous city”. Taiyuan is still prosperous it is also changing rapidly and this can be seen everywhere every day. The city is surrounded by mountains and on a good clear day, if you stand in the centre by Wu yi square you can see the mountains in two directions. Some say Taiyuan is the birth place of the Han people. This maybe a little disputed.

Taiyuan is noted for being central to some of the most extensive coal fields in the whole of China. Thus Taiyuan’s economy is based on coal. Also, there are many companies and colleges scattered over the city, with coal in mind.

In the past five years the city has took on a transformation. Thus it is growing at an astonishing rate. With new parks being established and high rise buildings, growing everywhere.
