Aston Introduction to TEFL Course

The Aston Introduction to TEFL course is an intensive one-week program designed to provide a systematic and practical introduction to the skills and techniques of English Language Teaching. It also provides a brief overview of current issues in second language learning and teaching.

The course runs full-time for seven days (though 8 days are scheduled, where feasible, to allow for a day off in the middle), with input sessions, observations and practical teaching. Successful participants will be awarded an Aston Certificate. The course covers the following areas: current issues in teaching and learning, course design and lesson planning, classroom management, effective teaching techniques to develop the four skills - listening, speaking, reading and writing, effective teaching techniques to develop skills in teaching grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation as well as assessment, correction and feedback.

Teaching observations, classroom practice through staged teaching and feedback from professional teacher trainers will all help develop the skills you need in the ESL classroom.

The course dates for the Aston Summer Intensive program 2010 are:

• China, Dalian July 2nd - July 9th

The course dates for the Aston Autumn/Fall semester 2010 are:

• China, Dalian August 23rd - August 30th
• China, Xi'an August 23rd - August 30th

Logistics:

The fee for the 7 day course is $300. This fee covers tuition and study materials only – all other costs are your responsibility. $110 is required at the beginning of the course.

Substantial assistance is available for people planning to teach with Aston:

• your school will pay the remaining $190 of the course fee for you on completion of your contract, and,
• if you teach for 6 months or more, you will also be eligible for a reimbursement of your initial $110!
